Cartridge Mechanical Seals
Cartridge Mechanical Seals
A Cartridge seal is an assembled mechanical seal that is easily installed and reduces installation time. Many standard configurations are available for applications. These are available according to known engineering designs with variations of sealing faces and elastomer specifications. Sizes are typically available with shaft diameter from 24mm to greater than 172mm (7”).
Correct specification of sealing faces is essential for performance. Faces are available as Carbon, Silicon Carbide, Sintered Silicon Carbide and Tungsten Carbide.
O-rings in seals must be specified correctly and are available as EPDM, Fluoroelastomer (Viton or Aflas) or Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM). Metal parts such as Glands and Sleeves are available in a range of suitable metals.
In order to correctly specify a seal, contact Nexus Sealing Solutions using the attached completed form with relevant information such as pumped fluid, shaft diameter and pressure rating.
General purpose single cartridge seals. Single cartridge seals are used in many applications in industries such as water, wastewater and chemical.
Supplied with various materials on sealing faces, o-rings and metal parts.
Double cartridge seals are an advanced design and are used where the process/pumped fluid is not a suitable lubricant for the sealing faces.
This is used with aggressive pumped media or when atmospheric leakage of pump fluid is unacceptable.
Double Cartridge seals use barrier or buffer fluid as required by the application or specified API plan.
This requires a support system to manage the barrier/buffer fluid. Supplied with various materials on sealing faces, o-rings and metal parts.
Slurry is a challenging media to pump and seal due to abrasiveness and chemical composition of pumped media.
Where the Specific Gravity (SG) is high a double seal design is usually advised where a lower SG can usually be accommodated by a single seal design.
Double Slurry Seals use barrier or buffer fluid as required by the application or API plan and this is essential for performance.
This requires a support system to manage the barrier/buffer fluid. Supplied with various materials on sealing faces, o-rings and metal parts.
Seals for the petrochemical industry are unique and high specification.
Nexus manufactures seals that meet the dimensions and performance criterion of API.
Robust cartridge seals that are used in applications with radial and axial movement requirements.
Supplied with various materials on sealing faces, o-rings and metal parts.
Where standard available seal designs do not meet the unique requirements of an application, Nexus Sealing Solutions will consider engineered designs considering best practice and design options.
